Metal Monday
So I’ve been doing Metal Monday (fairly) consistently for 6 months! Been a lot of changes in that time but I am proud I’ve been able to keep to a weekly schedule. A huge Thank You to folks who read.
YouTube Obsession
DayZ is one of those games that I find endlessly fascinating. Somehow (I think it was an early IdleThumbs stream) I got exposed to it back when it was just an ARMA mod and have been interested ever since. I will jump into a server every 6 months or so I can get wreckt by someone with 10,000 hours from 200 meters away. It’s rad.
All of DayZ gives me Highway 17 level of Half-Life 2. Knowing that desolation and silence will be punctuated by spurts of violence is the horror.
So, I’m back on my DayZ cycle and it’s mostly because of SourSweet’s videos chronicling his adventures on the some unforgiving servers.
Ultimately good video games allow users to create their own stories from the mechanics. DayZ is definitely game that is more than the sum of its parts.
Watching
I could spend an entire post unwrapping my love for Kung Fu movies but I’ll keep it short: I saw Jim Kelly in 1978’s Tattoo Connection¹ as a young boy and I have been a fan ever since. Seeking out VHSs at my local mom and pop rental store and then the DVD boom of the early 00’s was truly where my love for the genre flourished.
All this to say that Mubi has added a few classics to their library and I have been gobbling them up.
King Boxer, Come Drink With Me, Dirty HO, Clan of the White Lotus to name a few, but truly, the best of them is The 36th Chamber of Shaolin.
Everything about this movie rules. I keep trying to qualify what that means but I can only say it does everything that I want a movie to do. If I was making movies, I would make this movie. Go watch it.
Also, if you plan on signing up for Mubi, use my link. You get a free month, I get a free month, it’s a no-brainer.

GAMZ
Evil West is the best PS2 game to come out in 2023.
By today’s standards I see why this got panned on release. It’s not the most creative level design, it’s characters are boiler plate and it’s story is trope city USA.
But….
It’s gameplay loop -no matter how simple- is fun. And if you can snag this on PSPlus for free, I recommend it.
Extra bits…
Cooler than anything real gun-nuts do.
